Every feature, explained.
What each part of BeeKap does, and why it matters.
Start for freeAutomatic backup
Photos back up automatically as you take them. The mobile app uses a background sync that respects your battery, your network, and your sleep — it pauses below your battery threshold, waits for WiFi when you ask it to, and resumes uploads that were interrupted.
Behind the scenes, every upload is multipart, deduplicated by SHA-256, and resumable across app restarts. You don't lose progress, and you never upload the same photo twice.
- Background uploads, even when the app is closed
- WiFi-only or any connection — your choice
- Battery-safe — pause below a threshold you set
- Resumable multipart uploads
- Deduplication by SHA-256
AI-powered search
We encode every photo with OpenAI's CLIP model — the same model that powers "describe an image" search in tools like Pinterest and Apple Photos. When you search, your query gets encoded into the same space and matched against your library.
There's no tagging step. Just type what you remember — a place, an object, a mood, a person doing something — and BeeKap surfaces the photos that match.
- Natural-language queries: "sunset at the beach"
- Visual similarity baked into the embedding
- Sub-second results from a vector index
- Per-user scoping — your queries hit your library only
Object detection
Every photo runs through a YOLO object detector that tags what's in the frame. 80 object classes today, ranging from pets and food to vehicles and household items.
Tags become filters: you can browse all your photos of a dog, a cake, or a backpack, without manually labeling a thing.
- Automatic tagging on upload
- 80 detection classes (COCO)
- Confidence-weighted, with bounding boxes on the photo viewer
- Powers the Objects family of smart albums
People
Face recognition is opt-in per user. When you enable it, we detect faces with InsightFace and cluster them by similarity — one cluster per person we see across your library.
Clusters are private to your account. You can name them, merge them, or split them when our auto-clustering gets it wrong.
- Opt-in per user (disabled by default)
- Per-user clusters — never compared across accounts
- Name people for easy search and album creation
- Manual merge and split when needed
Smart albums
Smart albums rebuild every night. We surface three families: scene-based (e.g. "Beach", "City at Night"), object-based for things you photograph a lot (e.g. "Cake", "Bike"), and people-based if face recognition is enabled.
Albums never replace manual albums — they sit alongside them. Hide the ones you don't care about.
- Scene albums via CLIP zero-shot classification
- Object albums when a tag appears 5+ times
- People albums when face recognition is on
- Rebuilt nightly so they stay fresh
Multi-device
Capture on iOS or Android. Browse and search from the web. All three apps share the same library, the same upload queue, and the same search index.
The mobile app handles capture and background sync. The web app handles browsing, search, and downloading your originals.
- iOS, Android, and Web — one library
- Per-device sync controls (WiFi-only, battery threshold)
- Download any original from the web
- Cancel device sync from any other device
